This will be old news to folks in the SE Michigan... but just to provide an official recap since I've been busy with various other things (details to come) I thought I'd mention that the Slow Food Huron Valley Dinner in the Vineyard 2008 to benefit the delegates to Terra Madre 2008 was a smashing success! My brother and I actually obtained some video footage of the event, so stay tuned for some edited version of that to come to interwebs (and cable access) near you. The recap from the SFHV newsletter:
The 2008 Terra Madre Dinner in the Vineyard Fundraiser was a great success! Together, supporters raised well over $7,000, enough to send all five regional Michigan delegates to Terra Madre, the international Slow Food meeting in Turin, Italy in October. Congratulations to the delegates: farmer Shannon Brines of Brines Farm, chef Eve Aronoff of Eve The Restaurant, and chef Rodger Bowser of Zingerman's Deli, Cheese maker Aubrey Thomason of Zingerman's Creamery and Ann Arbor Farmer's Market manager Molly Notarianni. In Italy, they will attend meetings about the production of "high-quality" food, which will touch on issues of environmental resources and planetary equilibrium, aspects of taste, worker dignity, and consumer safety.
Our heartfelt thanks to sponsors of the event, including: Bello Vino Marketplace, Delux Tents & Events, Mighty Good Coffee Roasting Company, The Mosaic Foundation, The Produce Station, Zingerman's Deli, and of course Lone Oak Vineyard Estate, who provided the event site as well as wine produced at the vineyard. Also, thank you to some of Huron Valley's most beloved chefs and food producers who prepared the meal: chefs Eve Aronoff, Rodger Bowser, Craig Common of The Common Grill, Christian Thompson of Christian's Catering, Food Art Catered Affairs, Tammy Coxen of Tammy's Tastings and David Meyer of Mighty Good Coffee Roasting Company. Live music was provided by Billy King and by Kristen Johnson.
Improving the local food landscape is truly a community effort, thanks to all who participated and volunteered!
