Winter CSA, Week 2

Wow, what an amazing week of weather... Some of the greens are busting at the seams...

Double winter salad mix bags

A mini bitter salad mix that includes four varieties of curly endive (some of them heirloom) and some Italian red-ribbed dandelion. If you like bitter you have yourself a salad. If you like just a touch of bitter, try mixing this in with your salads.

Big bag of arugula

Komatsuna (summer fest). I love this versatile Japanese green, great for salads, braising mix, sauteed, stir fry, soups. Raw or cooked. Crunchy and juicy. Usually not this big, but it has been an extremely sunny autumn.

Tokyo Bekana. In my mind, this green is kind of a crazy combination of lettuce, komatsuna, and napa cabbage. Hence, I use it a lot like komatsuna (above) although a bit more in raw salads or slaws.

Speaking of slaws, here is the last of the autumn outdoor cabbages. Perhaps time to ferment or freeze them if you still have leftovers from the previous week. With weather like we are having, I wonder if we should have left them in the field.
