Winter CSA: Week 5
The first week of cold temperatures consistently and things look okay so far....
Winter Salad mix
Wrinkled Cress (Presto variety)... Warning this has some peppery kick to it. A lemon dressing could complement it.
Leaf Broccoli (spigaerelo liscia variety) from southern Italy. It is hard to play favorites when I grow so many varieties of greens, but this has to be one of the favorites of mine (and just about every winter farm hand that has worked at Brines Farm). My preferred cooking option is just briefly in a pan with a little olive oil.
Red Giant mustard greens (not super zesty yet this time of year)
A little more Tokyo Bekana
Most folks got a small heirloom pumpkin variety. Some folks got a baby Red Kuri (baby red Hubbard) squash. Both are good for pies or purée, to add to quick breads, muffins etc.
